We’re off on our next adventure…. Year 2 of 10

Originally the plan was to walk the Camino (a 600km stroll through Portugal and Spain over 25 days), then rest our weary legs on the edge of the Mediterranean, drinking champagne and eating tapas guilt free because we’d have pretty much walked from Sydney to Yamba.
Unfortunately, the dust-up in the Middle East had other ideas, so those plans have gone on the “we’ll get back to that” list. Hopefully in 2027.
So today we’re off to Noumea… but only for a month.
Why Noumea?
Simple. It’s only a short flight, it’s warmer than Sydney, there’s enough culture to make us feel like we’re broadening our horizons, enough beaches to justify doing absolutely nothing for a few days, and it’s easy for the kids and grandkids to pop over.
Plus, after being home for a while we were starting to do ridiculous things like rearrange the furniture and clean the garage. That’s always a warning sign that it’s time to leave.
The dogs are filthy with us. They must think we’re disappearing for another three months because they’ve spent the entire morning trying to climb into our suitcases. One even sat in front of the front door looking at us like, “Seriously? Again?” If guilt could pack a suitcase, we’d have had an extra bag to check in.
I’m hoping Noumea is every bit as good as Tahiti… just with fewer broken bones. One tropical fracture is enough for any lifetime.
No doubt we’ll find a local market, a bakery that deserves its own postcode, a supermarket we’ll spend an hour wandering around for no good reason, and some restaurant that serves great food and even better champagne, so good we’ll convince ourselves we need to go back three more times… just to make sure the first visit wasn’t a fluke.
Who knows what other mischief we’ll get up to. We’re good at getting lost, finding the wrong restaurant, driving on the wrong side of the road and a hundred other misdemeanors. What could possibly go wrong!
Stay tuned………,
